Calendar of Events (plugin=’Events Manager’)
To work on the calendar, click on “Events” in the left-hand list in the Dashboard. A list of features will dropdown. You will be using:
Events – A list of all the events that have been entered
Add Event – At a minimum, you should add title, from date (to is automatically filled with the same date), start and ending time (or check all day), check one or more categories, and location. You can add as much text as you need in the text box.
If you want to keep administrative functions on the calendar (such as Board meetings), you can change “Visibility” to private.
When finished, “Publish” the event.
Event Categories – Here you can enter and manage categories to associate with an event
Locations – Here you can manage the locations that appear in the data-entry dropdown. There are 4 locations plus “No Location” in the drop-down box.
We are not using Event Tags, Recurring Events, and Bookings. You shouldn’t need to look at Settings or Help.
The list of Event Categories we started with follows. Events can be in more than one category. It is important to assign a category because it can be used to pull out a subset of the events for a special purpose. We are listing “Farm Event” on the Double Oak page and “Canoe Trip” on the Guided Canoe Trip page.

Note: I’m not using color on categories.
Past Events are not deleted unless you remove them. In the “Events” list, you can filter on past, future, all. You can reuse old events such as Annual Meeting by editing the text and changing the date.
Display List of Events in a Category – To add a list of events in a specific category to a page (e.g., the canoe trips and double Oak display), look at “Events/Categories” on the Dashboard to find the ID number of the category. For example, Hikes is category 11.
Use Page Builder to add the “Events” widget to the page. Add the title for the display, add the category ID. Change the number of events as needed (default is 5), and, for a more pleasing display, change the code for the display text as follows:
