The Land and its Natural and Cultural Resources The American Chestnut Land Trust was established in 1987 to protect 441 acres of land in Calvert County, Maryland. ACLT has since purchased an additional 369 acres in the area and other landowners, including the State of Maryland and The Nature Conservancy, have independently protected an additional 2120 acres in the Parkers Creek watershed and the nearby Governor's Run watershed. ACLT has accepted the management of 350 acres owned by the State of Maryland and 1447 acres on the north side of Parkers Creek purchased by The Nature Conservancy. Through ownership and stewardship of the land, ACLT makes a commitment to preserve both natural and cultural resources. |
